CANTON — The towns of Massena and Brasher will receive $88,241 each in Tribal-State Compact funding.
St. Lawrence County legislators authorized the allocations at Thursday's meeting. The $88,241 represents 25 percent of the $352,964 the county received after submitting a plan for its use.
The remaining $176,482 will be placed in the county's contingency fund.
Additional compact funds are expected to come in a negotiations with the state continue.
Previously the tribe had been withholding payments because it believed the state had violated a casino exclusivity agreement.
This summer it agreed to release half of the $3.6 million it owed to St. Lawrence County.
In October legislators filed a claim, acting on the advice of legal counsel, that preserved its right to sue the state over approximately $1.8 million from the Tribal Gaming Compact.
