OGDENSBURG -- St. Lawrence County Coroner Kevin Crosby says a man in his mid-50s was found in the St. Lawrence River at around 9 a.m. today, June 24.
Although police are reported to have identified the man, the name has not yet been released.
Crosby said an autopsy was ordered and would be performed at Albany Medical Center as early as Thursday.
Police confirmed the incident is under investigation but are not commenting further.
“The circumstances of how he made into the water are still unclear,” Crosby said.
District Attorney Mary Rain was also at the scene this morning, as well as multiple police vehicles and rescue agencies.
The search for the body began Tuesday night, but was called off and later resumed Wednesday morning.
Multiple attempts to reach Ogdensburg Police Chief Richard Polniak have been unsuccessful, but an update is expected.
