After some uncomfortable high temperatures last week, cooler temperatures have prevailed during the last few days in the St. Lawrence Valley, getting down to unseasonably cool overnight temperatures last night.

Meanwhile, farms, gardens and lawns in many places in the North Country are starting to show signs that they need rain, but the National Weather Service forecast for the next week, without a mention of rain, looks good for outdoor recreation but not so good for growing things.

The temperature had dipped to 50 degrees by 5 a.m. today at Massena Airport, and it was colder than that in many spots, in contrast to the overnight lows in the 60s to near 70 degrees on recent nights. An average low for this time of year is about 58.

Skies will be mostly clear right through next Monday, as temperatures rise from daytime highs below 80 today and tomorrow to the mid to upper 80s by the weekend.
