Congressional Representative Bill Owens will attend the Canton Rotary Club’s noon luncheon and will take a tour of a Potsdam business on Monday.
Owens, a Democrat from Plattsburgh who represents the North Country’s huge 21st Congressional District, will speak with Rotary members at the meeting in the Best Western University Inn.
Then he will travel to NexID Biometrics on Main Street in Potsdam, a company formed out of the research conducted at Clarkson University on biometric identification security systems, such as fingerprint readers, and specifically “spoof mitigation and liveness detection solutions for the biometrics authentication industry,” according to their web site (http://nexidbiometrics.com/).
The news release from Owens’ office notes that commercialization of academic research has been one of the issues upon which Owens has focused. “Recent state and federal initiatives could lead to new opportunities for public and private collaboration that are expected to boost the North Country’s economy,” the release said.
