OGDENSBURG -- Green Party Congressional candidate Don Hassig of Colton plans on holding a news conference at Ogdensburg City Hall today, one day after his arrest in Parishville for alleged trespassing in a park.
Hassig, a longtime environmental activist, said in a statement he will be talking about rapid growth of new technologies and what he believes is a “significant quantity of risk for the public,” at his 3 p.m. news conference,
“New technologies should be developed slowly so as not to create a big health problem down the road. Hydraulic fracturing is the perfect example of a new technology expanding far too rapidly, causing a large quantity of exposure and damages to health,” Hassig said.
Hassig, a candidate running against incumbent Democrat Bill Owens and GOP challenger Matt Doheny for the new 21st Congressional seat, said he plans to file a federal free speech violation lawsuit against the Town of Parishville and state police over his arrest.
Hassig says he was dancing and conducting educational outreach at the time of his arrest Monday.
