POTSDAM -- The Northern New York Community Foundation’s Board of Directors recently approved a $5,000 grant to support the Community Performance Series in Potsdam for its 2017-2018 season.

Community Performance Series partners with the Potsdam College Foundation and garners support from the community to feature a variety of quality performing artists and arts education opportunities each year.

“As we continue to look for meaningful ways to invest in the quality of life for the residents of St. Lawrence County and Northern New York, this was a natural choice given CPS’ track record of bringing quality arts and cultural experiences to the North Country,” said Rande Richardson, Community Foundation executive director.

“North Country neighbors, as well as guests to our region, will benefit from the generosity of the Northern New York Community Foundation, helping to realize a goal that we established over 25 years ago,” said Sal Cania, founding director of Community Performance Series. “Today, more than ever before, gifts to the arts assure the continuation of what makes us fully human. We are grateful.”

The Community Foundation’s $5,000 grant will also help present the Canadian Brass performance in March 2018 at the Performing Arts Center at SUNY Potsdam. Arthur Frackenpohl, professor emeritus at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music, has written several arrangements for the Canadian Brass. Along with their performance, the group will present a master class to the college’s student brass quintet, and also provide a special performance with the quintet and the Frackenpohl Brass Ensemble.

“The Community Performance Series is so very thankful for the Northern New York Community Foundation’s generous support,” said Jason Dominie, Interim Operations Director at Community Performance Series. “Their grant will allow us to continue to enrich the lives of Northern New Yorkers through outstanding performing arts. We are pleased to work in partnership with the Foundation to keep the arts alive and vibrant in our community.”

The Northern New York Community Foundation makes grants to support the work of non-profit organizations and provides scholarships to individuals in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties. The Foundation has been built and added to from gifts (both while living and through their legacy plans) by individuals and organizations committed to meeting the changing needs of Northern New York, as well as supporting specific charitable interests and passions.
