Community foundation aids more than a dozen St. Lawrence County food pantries as part of $30,000 gift

More than a dozen St. Lawrence County charities will receive part of a $30,000 donation from the Northern New York Community Foundation.

“Because of the generosity of our donors, this grant will be able to touch every corner of the counties the Community Foundation serves by helping keep food pantry shelves stocked. This is one of those grants that we know can go immediately to work to help those in need,” said Rande S. Richardson, Community Foundation director.

The organizations benefiting from this grant in St. Lawrence County are the Canton Neighborhood Center Food Pantry, Church and Community Program, Canton, Colton-Pierrepont-Parishville Center Pantry, Free Community Meal Soup Kitchen, Star Lake, Free Will Meal Program Soup Kitchen, Canton, Gouverneur Neighborhood Center Food Pantry, Grasse River Food Pantry, Hammond Food Pantry, Massena First United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen, Massena Neighborhood Center Food Pantry, Norfolk-Raymondville Food Pantry, Potsdam Neighborhood Center Food Pantry, Ogdensburg Salvation Army, Gouverneur St. James Outreach Center Food Pantry, St. Vincent de Paul of Massena Food Pantry, Star Lake Neighborhood Center Food Pantry and Tri-Town Community Services Food Pantry.

Additionally 14 Jefferson County food pantries and 6 in Lewis County will receive a portion of the funding.

The Northern New York Community Foundation makes grants to support the work of non-profit organizations and provides scholarships to individuals in Jefferson, Lewis and

St. Lawrence Counties. This work is made possible by donors who have make annual gifts as well as those who have established permanent, charitable funds with the Foundation during their lifetimes or through their wills and have a general, broad and enduring interest in supporting the quality of life in the North Country.
