POTSDAM -- Legendary comedian Gallagher, known for his signature sketch pitch for the "Sledge-O-Matic" wooden prop mallet, will perform Feb. 7 at 9 p.m. at Between the Buns, 6 Elm St. as part of his farewell tour.

"We hope to bring in bigger names comedians 6 or so times a year in an effort to offer sometime different around here," said Marc Morley, owner of Between the Buns.

There aren't too many comedy clubs around here…the closest ones are in Syracuse or Canada, he said.

Morley said he was not sure if Gallagher still smashes watermelons and other items during his routine, as he had not spoken to him personally.

Gallagher began honing his craft in California in 1969. He was one of the most popular and recognizable American comedians during the 1980s. He performed 14 comedy specials for Showtime. These shows have been rebroadcast numerous times on Comedy Central.

In addition to the "Sledge-O-Matic" bit, Gallagher's act typically features a variety of props.

Gallagher will perform a two and half hour set upstairs at Mick & Iry's, which is located above Between the Buns.

"Gallagher will be performing at Turning Stone Casino the night before and in Montreal the following night…so it was a good fit as he will be traveling through the area already," Morley said.

A friend of Morley's was at a bar and had a chance meeting with Gallagher and mentioned that Morley is promoting comedy shows in Potsdam.

"It allows us to keep ticket prices down because we don't need to fly him in from far away because he will already in the area," he said.

In November, Between the Buns brought in comedian Costaki Economopoulos from the Bob and Tom radio show.

The show was sold out and well received by those who attended, Morley said.

"We will continue to work with the Bob and Tom radio show and try to bring in comedians that are featured on their show," he said.

The November show featured an opening act from Syracuse, and depending on how long a comedians set is, that may be the formula for the future.

"Gallagher will be on stage for over two hours…so we did not see a need for an opening act for him," Morley said.

The venue above Between the Buns can hold approximately 150 to 200 people and features a balcony that will open for V.I.P seating during the Gallagher show.

"We plan to have about 10 V.I.P. tickets which will be a private area with extra bonuses for those who purchase them," Morley said.

Aside from comedy, Morley has plans to bring bands into the area but did not have details at this time as to when that may happen.

"There is always something going on here and we are trying to provide quality entertainment to the North County," he said.

Doors open at 8 p.m. and there is open seating.

Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased at Between the Buns. Tickets will be $25 at the door. For more information, call 265-8888, visit www.BTBNY.com or "Like' on Facebook at BTB Potsdam.
