COLTON – On Saturday, when the late Timothy Patrick Hennessy of Colton is inducted into the New York State Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame, the Town of Colton will celebrate Timothy Hennessy Day.

In a resolution approved by the town board, Hennessy is praised as “a valued member of our community” who “served the Town of Colton with distinction as Town Supervisor for 12 years” and “had an illustrious career teaching and coaching at Colton-Pierrepont Central School.”

On the occasion of his election as an inductee into the state Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame, the resolution said, “the Colton Town Board hereby declares Saturday, November 19, 2011 as Timothy Hennessy Day.”

Hennessy coached the Colton-Pierrepont boys’ soccer teams for nearly 40 years, his teams winning several divisional and sectional titles. After that, he served as an assistant coach for Potsdam High boys’ soccer for several years.

Hennessy died in 2004 at the age of 66.

Supervisor Lawrence Patzwald presented a framed copy of the resolution to the late coach’s wife, Cynthia Hennessy.

Mrs. Hennessy accepted the recognition and thanked everyone for the honor on behalf of herself and her family.
