Colton United Methodist Church hosting bottle drive to fight malaria in Africa

COLTON -- The Colton United Methodist Church has launched a can/bottle drive to raise funds to purchase special mosquito nets for “Imagine No Malaria” which is under the umbrella of the Africa 360 holistic initiative.

Malaria causes at least one million deaths per year-most of which are children under the age of five years. According to UNICEF, the children are dying at the rate of nearly 3,000 per day.

A donation of 200 cans equals $10 which will be used to purchase one net which can last for about five years.

In Colton, bottles can be dropped off at the parking lot door of the church or at White's General Store-please designate that they are for this drive. There will also be several containers throughout the community. In Potsdam, CJ's will accept bottles, just tell clerk that about your donation of cans to the church drive.

Monetary donations will also be accepted. Checks are to be made payable to the Colton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 43, Colton, NY 13625. The drive runs through Labor Day.
