COLTON -- The Colton-Pierrepont Central School District Board of Education on June 11 named James Nee as the sole finalist for the superintendent position, which will be vacated by Joseph Kardash July 6.

Nee has served the district as building principal since 2013.

“Jim has a proven track record in our district, and we are confident he will hit the ground running as superintendent,” said Board of Education President Scott Baxter.

Thomas Burns, District Superintendent at St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES is assisting the Colton-Pierrepont Central School Board of Education in the search. The district had received eight applications for the position at the June 6 deadline.

“After assessing all applications for the position, the board determined that Jim Nee is the best fit for the district,“ said Burns. “Jim has the right skills, experience and understanding of Colton-Pierrepont’s culture of innovation to move the district forward.”

Nee will meet with the school board June 18 at 5:30 p.m., and share his vision for the district and propose his entry plan at 6:30 p.m., following the BOE discussion.

It is anticipated that Nee will be appointed at the regular board meeting on Wednesday, June 20.

Nee holds a bachelor’s degree in history from LeMoyne College, a master’s degree in education from SUNY Potsdam, and a certificate of advanced study in school building and school district leadership from Stony Brook University.

Prior to his role as building principal, Nee acted as a teacher on special assignment and administrative intern for Colton-Pierrepont Central School, and responsible for overseeing student discipline and academic intervention services.

He began his career as an educator in the Colton-Pierrepont Central School District in 2000 as a social studies teacher.
