Preston J. Frank, 20, was charged a 2:14 a.m. with first-offense DWI and failure to keep right at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, 50 Leroy St. in Potsdam.
Frank was traveling east on State Highway 72 in the Town of Parishville, in his 2001 Volkswagen Passat, when a deer allegedly entered the roadway from the south shoulder.
Frank attempted to avoid deer and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway via the north shoulder of State Highway 72 and struck a crosswalk sign, utility pole support cable, and a sugar maple tree.
Frank sustained a head laceration and was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital by Parishville Rescue.
At the hospital Troopers interviewed Frank and determined he was intoxicated. Frank failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests that were administered by the Troopers. Frank was placed under arrest for DWI and provided a blood sample at the hospital.
Frank was issued tickets returnable to the Parishville Town Court on August 16, 2016 at 7:00 P.M.
