A Colton home health aide is accused of stealing more than $50,000 from a Norfolk patient, but the investigation is continuing and the final amount could reach much higher.

Laura L. Quicke, 44, was arrested Tuesday and arraigned in Massena Village Court on a charge of second-degree grand larceny, a Class C felony.

New York State Police Investigator DeWayne Baillargeon said $50,000 is the floor for a second-degree charge, and that his investigation is proceeding.

The arrest stems from Baillargeon's investigation of the alleged theft from a 57-year-old Norfolk man for whom Quicke was providing home health care between 2007 and 2012.

The thefts were described as "systematic" by state police.

Quicke was sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash or $40,000 secured bail bond.
