COLTON -- A home at 1178 Raquette River Road is a total loss after a fire broke out there late Thursday morning.
Colton Fire Chief Aaron Johnson said the cause is under investigation, but it does not appear suspicious.
“I’m guessing the house will be a total loss. It was a split-level. The upper level sustained most fire damage, the lower level sustained smoke and water damage,” he said. “It started in an entryway and ended up in the roof lining.”
About 30 firefighters from five local departments responded, including Colton, Parishville, Pierrepont, Hannawa Falls, Potsdam and Canton.
Johnson said they got the initial call at 11:42 a.m. and were not back in service until 4:52 p.m.
There were no injuries to firefighters.
Johnson said he was not sure who owned the property.
