NORFOLK -- The state police accident Collision Reconstruction Unit has completed its report of a March accident involving a state police officer and another driver.

However, the report is now being investigated in Albany and no additional information regarding the accident is expected for at least a month, according to state police.

On March 2 two people were hospitalized following an accident in Norfolk involving Trooper Leah G. Malbeuf, 25, and Cathy A. Ashlaw, 60, of Brasher.

To date, no charges have been filed for either driver and no details on the investigation have been available since March 3.

State police have stated that although this accident involved a trooper, it is handled the same way any other case that requires a State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

The report from the CRU is now being reviewed by investigators, meaning it could still be a long while before any answers regarding the accident are revealed.

According to police, Tooper Malbeuf was traveling northwest on County Route 49, and a 2008 Toyota Matrix, operated by Ashlaw, was traveling northeast on County Route 38.

Malbeuf's vehicle struck Ashlaw's vehicle at the intersection of county routes 49 and 38, according to the initial investigation, state police said.

Ashlaw was transferred to University of Vermont Medical Center after first being taken to Massena Memorial Hospital by Norfolk Rescue, for injuries that were not described in the state police account.

Malbeuf was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital by Norfolk Rescue for injuries she sustained in the accident.
