Cold weather warning in effect across St. Lawrence County as wind chills could hit -27

A warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. as wind chills could hit as low as -27 degrees today, according to the National Weather Service.

St. Lawrence County residents are urged to dress appropriately when venturing outdoors as the extreme cold can lead to frostbite and hypothermia.

In the wake of the extreme cold, St. Lawrence County is expected to up to 2 inches of snow Monday, followed by sleet and snow Tuesday.

A seven-day forecast follows:

Today: Sunny and cold, with a high near 0. Wind chill values as low as -26. West wind 6 to 8 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around -12. Wind chill values as low as -26. South wind around 6 mph.

Washington's Birthday: A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly after 4pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 26. Wind chill values as low as -25. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Monday Night: Snow, mainly after 2am. Low around 23. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Tuesday: Rain, snow, and sleet before 4pm, then snow likely, possibly mixed with rain. High near 36. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Tuesday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. West wind around 9 mph.

Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. West wind 7 to 10 mph.
