Cold today in St. Lawrence County as storm moves on; snow and rain expected Friday

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly cloudy skies, lower temperatures and perhaps a little more snow today in St. Lawrence County.

The storm that dropped as much as a foot of snow in some areas of St. Lawrence County and forced delays, early closings and cancellations at area schools yesterday and today is moving over New England and the Canadian Maritimes and northeast into the Atlantic.

Northwest winds of about 15 mph will result in some blowing and drifting of snow, the NWS says.

After high temperatures today in the teens and single-digit lows tonight, the temperature will rise into the 30s on Friday with snow turning to rain.

Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 20s Friday night with continued rain and snow showers.

For Saturday, the outlook is for a chance of rain and snow, then partly sunny skies on Sunday with highs in the teens.

The forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Areas of blowing snow and a slight chance of snow before noon, then areas of blowing snow after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 16. Wind chill values as low as -10. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

• Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 1. Wind chill values as low as -16. Southwest wind 7 to 11 mph.

• Friday: Snow showers likely before 3pm, then rain and snow showers likely between 3pm and 4pm, then rain showers likely after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 39. Wind chill values as low as -15. South wind 10 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

• Friday Night: Rain and snow showers likely before 11pm, then rain showers likely between 11pm and 3am, then rain and snow showers likely after 3am. Cloudy, with a low around 28. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Saturday: A chance of snow showers before 3pm, then a chance of rain showers. Cloudy, with a high near 39. West wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

• Saturday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers before 7pm, then a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 11. Northwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 18. West wind 8 to 10 mph.

• Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around -1. North wind 5 to 7 mph.

• Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 19. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon.

• Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 6. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

• Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon.

• Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph after midnight.

• Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the morning.
