Cold, rain and snow in the cards for St. Lawrence County in the coming days and nights

The National Weather Service says most of St. Lawrence County is in for rain and snow through at least Thursday.

Meteorologists say there is a 70 percent chance of showers in all St. Lawrence County communities with temperatures near 40 degrees.

Wednesday brings 40 to 60 percent chance of showers with thermometers showing around 42 degrees, giving way to frozen precipitation at night.

The NWS says there are 60 to 80 percent odds of nighttime cold rain and snow. Temperatures are predicted around 31 degrees.

Forecasters say the entire county is looking at more snow Thursday, with as low as 40 percent odds in Ogdensburg and 70 percent odds in Potsdam and 80 percent in Star Lake, where 1 to 3 inches could fall.

Thursday night brings 30 to 40 percent chances of snow.

The detailed forecast for Potsdam:

Tuesday night - A chance of rain before 7 p.m., then showers likely after 7 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 40. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Wednesday - A chance of showers before 4pm, then a chance of rain after 4 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday night - Rain and snow showers, becoming all snow after 3 a.m. Low around 31. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday - Snow showers likely before noon, then rain and snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 36. West wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Thursday night - A chance of rain and snow showers before 10pm, then a chance of snow showers between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 31. West wind 5 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday - Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. West wind around 8 mph.

Friday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 28. West wind 3 to 7 mph.

Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 41. Southwest wind 3 to 7 mph.

Saturday night - Mostly clear, with a low around 30. Southwest wind around 8 mph.

Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 44. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph.

Sunday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. West wind 6 to 8 mph.

Monday - Partly sunny, with a high near 40. West wind 3 to 5 mph.

Monday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. South wind 3 to 6 mph.
