Cold and wind continue to make for potentially dangerous conditions in the St. Lawrence Valley

 The National Weather Service has posted a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the St. Lawrence Valley and the rest of the North Country due to continued potentially dangerous cold in the region.

 Another shot of arctic air will stream into the region tonight into Friday, dropping lows tonight to minus 5 and getting only as high as about plus 5 Friday.

 With winds expected to gust as high as 30 mph tonight and remaining breezy tomorrow, wind chill values may be a concern late tonight into the morning hours on Friday.

 Temperatures will remain in the single digits on either side of zero until the weekend, when temps in the mid-20s are expected for Saturday and will rise into the 30s on Sunday.

 While there is a 50 percent chance of snow today and tonight, it rises to 80 percent Saturday night and 70 percent Sunday across the North Country, according to the NWS. So far, there are no estimates of accumulations.

 The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

 • This Afternoon: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy and cold, with a high near 9. Wind chill values as low as -15. West wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

 • Tonight: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around -5. Wind chill values as low as -22. West wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

 • Friday: A 20 percent chance of snow showers before 9am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing and cold, with a high near 5. Wind chill values as low as -25. Southwest wind 11 to 14 mph.

 • Friday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around -7. Wind chill values as low as -18. South wind 3 to 6 mph.

 • Saturday: A 40 percent chance of snow after 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 25. South wind 5 to 7 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

 • Saturday Night: Snow. Low around 21. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

 • Sunday: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 31. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

 • Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 0. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph.

 • Monday: Partly sunny and cold, with a high near 7. West wind 11 to 14 mph.

 • Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around -10. West wind 8 to 10 mph becoming south after midnight.

 • Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 14. South wind 8 to 10 mph.

 • Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 5. South wind 7 to 9 mph.

 • Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 23. Southeast wind around 7 mph becoming west in the afternoon.
