OGDENSBURG -- The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Alexandria Bay-based U.S. Coast Guard personnel recently wore lifejackets at the Ogdensburg Marina to promote boating safety awareness as part of "Ready Set Wear It Day."
There were 379 were drowning deaths in 2012 where no life jacket was worn, according to the Safe Boating Campaign, which sponsors the event.
That year is the most recent for which statistics were available.
