Cloudy and wet in St. Lawrence County through Friday night, Weather Service predicts

Rain and snow showers and relatively warm temperatures are part of the forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks through Friday night, according to the National Weather Service, but we re in for some clear weather this weekend and early next week.

The chance of precipitation is put at 40 percent today, diminishing late this afternoon. Highs today will be around 37. Tonight a slight chance of snow remains, as temps drop into the mid-20s.

Thursday through Friday, the chance of precipitation peaks Thursday night at 100 percent, and temperatures will be in the 30s both days and Thursday night. No significant amounts of rain or snow are predicted.

Saturday it will be partly sunny, mostly cloudy Sunday, and sunny Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures Sunday and Monday nights falling into the single digits.

The NWS forecast:

Today: Scattered snow showers, mainly before 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 37. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tonight: A slight chance of snow showers before 9pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 24. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday: A slight chance of rain and snow before 3pm, then rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Southeast wind between 3 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Thursday Night: Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 3am. Low around 34. Southeast wind 8 to 11 mph becoming southwest. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Friday: A chance of rain and snow showers before 2pm, then scattered rain showers between 2pm and 5pm, then scattered rain and snow showers after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. West wind between 10 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Scattered snow showers, mainly before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 34.

Saturday Night: A chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 21. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 8.

Washington's Birthday: Sunny, with a high near 24.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 7.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 35.
