Clouds and snow will dominate the weather in St. Lawrence County over the weekend, and while the chance of snow continues into next week, we might see some sun on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

High pressure is building across the North Country this morning. Developing southwest winds from Lake Ontario will bring some localized lake effect snow across southern St. Lawrence County with light snow accumulation possible, the NWS predicts.

Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy with just a few flurries with highs in the upper teens to around 20 today.

Forecasters predict a more widespread snowfall across the North Country Sunday into Sunday night. Highs on Sunday will be around 30, dropping to 10 degrees or less that night. Moderate snowfall accumulations are possible, especially in the Adirondacks, forecasters say.

Tuesday night into Wednesday, forecasters say additional snow or possibly a wintry mix is possible.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and the Northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 20. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible, more in the mountains.

• Tonight: A 50 to 60 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 20. South wind 10 to 15 mph. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

• Sunday: Snow. High near 32. Breezy, with a south wind 16 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 4 inches possible.

• Sunday Night: Snow, mainly before 5am. Low around 7 to 10. South wind 8 to 15 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

• Monday: A 30 percent chance of snow before 7am. Partly to mostly sunny, with a high in the upper teens to 20 degrees. West wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Monday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 9. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.

• Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 26. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

• Tuesday Night: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low in the mid-teens. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

• Wednesday: Snow. High near 27. East wind around 6 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

• Wednesday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 8. Northwest wind around 6 mph.

• Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 21. West wind 6 to 8 mph.
