Rain expected to end long run of summer-like weather in St. Lawrence County; cooler temperatures predicted for Sunday

Rain and cooler conditions are in the forecast for St. Lawrence County.

Sunny skies in the St. Lawrence Valley will give way to clouds and a 30 percent chance of showers this afternoon, rising to 90 percent tonight, according to the National Weather Service. Accumulations by morning could amount to as much as half an inch

High temperatures today will be in the upper 60s to low 70s; lows tonight will be in the low 50s, cooler toward the mountains.

A sunny day is predicted tomorrow, with highs only from 60 to 64 degrees. The temperature Sunday night is expected to drop below to about 38 Sunday night in the valley, and actually warmer, around 45, in higher elevations to the south, the NWS says.

Mostly clear conditions, high temperatures in the 60s to near 70 and lows around 50 into mid-week are predicted

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: A 30 percent chance of showers after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a steady temperature around 69. South wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Tonight: Occasional showers, mainly before midnight. Low around 52. West wind 14 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

• Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 64. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph.

• Sunday Night: Clear, with a low around 38. Light and variable wind.

• Monday: Sunny, with a high near 71. Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the morning.

• Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 51. Light and variable wind becoming east around 5 mph after midnight.

• Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Light southeast wind.

• Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 51. Calm wind.

• Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 74. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.

• Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 52. Light and variable wind.

• Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

• Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 51. Light north wind.

• Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Light north wind.
