OGDENSBURG -- A public hearing will be held Aug. 11 to discuss the elimination of several 20 mph zones in the city.
Due to the closure of St. Marguerite D'Youville Academy and Lincoln Elementary School councilors are planning to eliminate 20 mph zones on Gates Street, Jay Street, Judson Street, Knox Street, Mansion Avenue and South Rosseel Street.
Members of the public will have a chance to speak regarding the proposed elimination of speed zones. In June councilors approved similar speed zone changes at the former Sherman Elementary School.
If approved at the next council meeting, the new ordinance will take effect Aug. 22.
St. Marguerite D'Youville Academy announced in March that it would be not be opening in the fall due to limited funding. School officials said declining enrollment was a major factor.
Ogdensburg City School District is currently marketing former Lincoln Elementary Building. The school was closed recently after massive overhaul and addition at Kennedy Elementary School.
Prospective buyers can contact Jim McCarthy to schedule and appointment for an inspection of the property at 393-0900 Ext. 1927, for questions about the proposal contact Jeff Swanson at 393-7912 Ext. 40293.
The hearing is scheduled at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 at City Hall.
