STAR LAKE -- Brianna Dolan, a freshman at Clifton-Fine Central School, is the winner of the New York’s 23rd Congressional District division of the 2010 Congressional Art Competition, Congressman Bill Owens announced.

Her work, “Brain Tree,” was selected to represent the region and will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

“This is a big honor for Brianna and our school,” said Becky Milone, Middle/High School Art Teacher at Clifton-Fine Central School. “What a wonderful way to encourage creativity and the arts! To me this sort of thing is what education is all about.”

“This year’s competition saw some talented young artists from our community,” Owens said. “I want to congratulate Brianna, and all our artists for their unique and impressive work. I look forward to seeing this piece of art as I walk through the Capitol.”

Each spring, a nationwide high school arts competition is sponsored by the members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in each congressional district. A winner is chosen from each district and a reception is held in their honor. This year, the reception will be June 17th in Washington. Brianna and her family plan to attend the event.
