Clearing, warming in St. Lawrence Valley today; rivers, streams still running high

Drier weather is expected today in the St. Lawrence Valley as high pressure moves in.

Temperatures under clearing skies will be a bit warmer than Friday, maxing out in the upper 70s to near 80, the National Weather Service says.

Lows tonight will be in the upper 40s to mid 50s with some scattered fog overnight, before temps rise again into the upper 70s to around 80 Sunday.

The NWS has dropped the flood watch they had posted for parts of the North Country due to heavy rains, but they say to expect rivers and streams still to be running high.

There is a 40 percent chance of showers Sunday night with lows around 60, and 50 percent Monday and Monday night with highs approaching 80 and lows in the mid 60s.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. West wind 6 to 8 mph.

• Tonight: Patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 55. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight.

• Sunday: Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 79. Light and variable wind.

• Sunday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers after 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Monday: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly sunny through mid morning, then becoming cloudy, with a high near 78. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Monday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 67. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Tuesday: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. West wind 7 to 9 mph.

• Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 57. North wind around 7 mph.

• Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph.

• Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming southeast after midnight.

• Thursday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. South wind around 7 mph.

• Thursday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

• Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph.
