Clear Saturday to give way to snowy Sunday in North Country; wintry mix expected later in week

The National Weather Service says Saturday in St. Lawrence County should be clear and sunny with temperatures in the 20s, leading into a slightly warmer albeit more snowy Sunday.

Forecasters predict 24 degree temperatures in Massena, Potsdam and Gouverneur and just a degree or two cooler everywhere else. Higher elevations can expect thermometers to read around 19 degrees.

Saturday night should drop to a low of 1 degree in Potsdam and Canton, the NWS says, with the mountainous regions getting down to around -2.

Sunday brings a 60 percent chance of snow starting after noon in Potsdam, Gouverneur and Star Lake, with Massena, Canton and Ogdensburg looking at 50 percent odds. Temperatures are predicted in the high 20s throughout St. Lawrence County.

Sunday night brings a 90 percent chance of snow to most of St. Lawrence County with temperartures getting down to 16 degrees in most areas.

Monday is forecast at a 60 percent chance of snow with temperatures around 28 degrees.

Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 24. Southwest wind 9 to 14 mph.

Saturday night - Mostly clear, with a low around 1. Wind chill values as low as -7. South wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Sunday - A 50 percent chance of snow, mainly after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. Wind chill values as low as -7. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Sunday night - Snow. Low around 16. West wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Monday Snow showers likely, mainly before 7am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 28. Breezy, with a west wind 9 to 14 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Monday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 0. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph becoming light west after midnight.

Tuesday - Partly sunny, with a high near 26. South wind 3 to 5 mph.

Tuesday night - Snow and sleet. Low around 23. Southeast wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Wednesday - Rain, snow, and freezing rain. High near 40. South wind 9 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Wednesday night - Snow showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. West wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Thursday - Partly sunny, with a high near 22. West wind 9 to 11 mph.

Thursday - Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 2. West wind around 10 mph.

Friday - Partly sunny, with a high near 22. Southwest wind 9 to 13 mph.
