Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center hires new surgeon in Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center recently welcomed Karen Galvan, MD to its medical staff.

Dr. Galvan, a general surgeon will provide care through St. Lawrence Surgery, 3 Lyon Place, Suite 200, Ogdensburg. Appointments can be made by calling 393-2611; no referral is necessary.

Dr. Galvan will also provide wound care at Claxton-Hepburn’s Rev. Thomas T. Patterson Wound Healing Center, 100 Horwood Place, Ogdensburg.

Dr. Galvan, who recently completed her residency training, comes to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center from SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, New York, where she completed a residency in categorical general surgery, through the university’s department of surgery.

Dr. Galvan earned her doctor of medicine from SUNY Upstate University also. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the Christian Medical and Dental Association. She is board eligible. Dr. Galvan has also won several awards and scholarships, participated in research projects that were published. Additionally, she has volunteered for various community service projects.

Her clinical interests include general surgery, including breast, endoscopy and wound care, and treating the underserved.

Dr. Galvan resides in Ogdensburg with her husband. Outside of work, Dr. Galvan enjoys cooking, gardening, running and spending time with family and friends.
