Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center hires Lisbon woman as new physician assistant for Madrid clinic

MADRID -- Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center has a new physician assistant on staff, working at its Madrid clinic.

Alesha (Akins) Pedersen, a registered and certified physician assistant, will be providing care at the Madrid Health Center, 16 Church St. Appointments can be made by calling 322-8947.

Pedersen comes to the North Country from New Hope Primary Care, Wilson, N.C., a community outpatient setting. Prior to that she was at Unity Hospital, Rochester, in the emergency/medical observation unit.

Pedersen has worked in emergency medicine, internal medicine, dermatology, surgical intensive care, mental health, orthopedics, pediatrics, family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and neonatal intensive care.

Pedersen earned her master of science in physician assistant studies and a bachelor of science in heath science from Daeman College, Amherst. She graduated cum laude. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the New York State Society of Physician Assistants.

Her clinical interests in include family medicine, preventive medicine and women’s health.

Pedersen lives in Lisbon with her husband Jordan Pedersen.
