OGDENSBURG -- Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center President and CEO Mark A. Webster will resign his post at the end of the year.
CHMC spokeswoman Laura Shea said Webster accepted a position as chief executive officer at the Cortland Regional Medical Center to be closer to his family.
“He did announce his resignation yesterday. One of the key drivers in his decision to relocate was to be closer to his friends and family,” she said.
His resignation will be effective Dec. 31.
Originally from Pennsylvania, Webster has been CEO at CHMC for 10 years.
She said the board of directors are planning a nation wide search of a new top administrator, and do not appear to be hiring from within the organization.
A search of this scope is unlikely to be completed by Jan. 1, but Shea said the board has a succession plan that in place that must be approved.
That plan would 'put more of the weight on the administrative staff,’ Shea said. Further details about the succession plan were not available.
Shea said the board of directors is expected to discuss the issue in length at the next meeting.
