POTSDAM – Clarkson University hosted its annual Roller Coaster Camp recently for local students in grades 7-12 who are part of the IMPETUS (Integrated Math and Physics for Entry into Undergraduate STEM disciplines) program.

The program, hosted at St. Lawrence county schools, sets up students with regular meetings during the year to work in companies to design and test model roller coasters.

Students then gather at Clarkson annually at the camp to test their designs and learn about the physics and science behind roller coasters with a series on hands-on physics activities

The group then collected biomedical data as they rode the Comet at Six Flags in Lake George.

At the end of the week, the students presented a showcase for their friends and familiesin the Student Center Multipurpose Rooms at Clarkson.

The camp is sponsored by the Clarkson University IMPETUS Program, which is funded through a NY State STEP grant. It is supported by the Clarkson Office of Educational Partnerships.
