CANTON – With North Country college hockey rivals St. Lawrence University and Clarkson University meet twice this weekend in the quarterfinals of the ECAC league playoffs.
The two NCAA Division I teams are scheduled to play at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights. Both games will be in Canton at SLU’s Appleton Arena.
The Saints finished the regular league season at 8-11-3; the Golden Knights’ ECAC season ended with a 10-9-3 record. SLU’s overall record against NCAA Div. I teams was 17-13-4; Clarkson’s was 20-13-3.
Other teams in the ECAC quarterfinals include the USCHO.com online poll’s national first-ranked team Quinnipiac Bobcats, seventh-ranked Yale, and 12th-ranked Harvard.
St. Lawrence’s Saints are ranked 18th. Clarkson is not ranked among the top 20 in the USCHO polling.
The top four teams from this weekend’s play around the league go to Lake Placid and the Herb Brooks Arena for the ECAC championship tournament March 18 and 19.
One of the most iconic trophies in sports, the Stanley Cup, will be there during Friday’s, March 18, semifinal round of the ECAC Men’s Hockey Championship tournament in Lake Placid. Fans will have a chance to get pictures with Lord Stanley’s silver cup.
NCAA Div. 1 men’s college hockey regional games will be played March 25 to 27 before the championship tournament April 7 and 9 in Tampa Bay.
