Clarkson University Army ROTC Cadet Andrew Nelden has his oath administered by his father, Lt. Col. Jeffery R. Nelden, over Skype from Kandahar, Afghanistan.
POTSDAM -- Cadet Andrew Nelden of Felts Mills was one of nine Army ROTC cadets from Clarkson University's Golden Knight Battalion to sign his contract and take his oath of enlistment recently.
But Nelden was the only one to be sworn in by his father, Lt. Col. Jeffery R. Nelden, via Skype from Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Nelden's oath was administered by his father, Lt. Col. Jeffery R. Nelden, via Skype from Kandahar, Afghanistan. Lt. Col. Nelden is the Regional Command South Provost Marshal and Chief, Afghan National Police Development Officer.
Cadet Nelden stood before a laptop in Clarkson’s Cheel Campus Center in Potsdam, right hand raised, as his father, in Afghanistan, gave him the oath.
Attending the ceremony stateside were Andrew Nelden's mother, Jennifer, and his grandparents, Cynthia and Douglas Goodhue.
This contracting ceremony signifies a commitment by the cadet to pursue an Army commission, and the Army's commitment to train him as an officer and provide financial benefits.
