POTSDAM -- Clarkson University reports it has received more than $537,000 in royalty payments from Ferro Corporation over the past seven years.

The royalties cover licenses for a chemical-mechanical planarization (CMP) slurry formulation developed in Professor S.V. Babu's laboratory by Ramanathan Srinivasan and the late William America.

Srinivasan is an associate professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Technology in Chennai, India.

America, also a Kodak employee at the time of this work, served in 2006-2007 as the deputy director for Clarkson's Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP). In addition to the slurry development, he was instrumental in having Kodak file the patents and licensing them to Ferro.

Jack Prendergast, CAMP's current deputy director, also contributed to the successful effort. He encouraged Ferro to license the patents and to commercialize, qualify, and market the slurry.
