POTSDAM -- After helping to lead the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team to the best season ever in the program’s 35-year history, Ben Gaebel has been named as the Golden Knights’ new full-time head coach.

Gaebel, who served as an interim co-head coach this spring, guided the Green and Gold to an 11-5 overall record. Clarkson, which placed four Golden Knights on the Liberty League All-Star team, narrowly missed out on a conference tournament berth, holding a 4-5 league mark.

“We are excited to have Ben on staff,” said Clarkson Athletic Director Steve Yianoukos. “His background as a National Champion lacrosse player, an assistant coach and as an admissions counselor brings a unique blend of competitiveness, motivation and recruiting ability that are essential to compete at the collegiate level. I am looking forward to watching his team’s success in the coming years.”

A 2007 graduate of SUNY Cortland, Gaebel earned a myriad of awards as an all-star goaltender during his four-year career (2002-06) with the Red Dragons. In his senior campaign, the Carthage, NY native earned STX USILA All-America honors, was named ECAC Division III Goaltender of the Year and was a First-Team SUNYAC All-Conference selection while helping to lead Cortland to the 2006 NCAA Division III National. Title.

“I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to step into the position of head coach,” Gaebel said. “I am very excited for the opportunity to be able to continue to build upon the success we had this past season and to hopefully take this program to new heights. The education offered at Clarkson is outstanding, which I hope in turn will attract some of the best student-athletes to the University.”

While working towards his master degree at Potsdam State, Gaebel served as an assistant coach for the Bears’ Men’s Lacrosse team from 2007-2011. He has also been involved as a director of several summer lacrosse camps.

Gaebel, who worked in Clarkson’s Admission office as an Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Admissions the past two years, will assume the full-time duties as head coach July 1.

Gaebel is the 13th head coach in the history of Clarkson Women’s Lacrosse.
