Clarkson to unveil new data center, Old Main renovations

Posted

POTSDAM – Clarkson University next Monday will celebrate the establishment of the North Country’s first green data center along with a new research facility for the school and its subsidiary, the Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries.

Assemblywoman Addie Russell and staff from the Office of the New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will announce renovation plans for Clarkson’s historic sandstone Old Main as a research facility for the Beacon Institute.

A data center is a place to store and manage data. A green data center is designed to be energy efficient and otherwise to be built and run with a minimum of environmental degradation.

The center is being developed with help from a partnership grant from IBM in support of research, advanced computing analytics and Clarkson’s drive for sustainability.

The celebration begins with coffee at 8:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5 in the new Student Center.

To RSVP by Friday, Dec. 2, or get more information, contact Maureen Fisher at mfisher@clarkson.edu or 268-4153.
