POTSDAM -- Sculptor David Black has included a Clarkson University landmark in his book “David Black - Urban Sculpture as Proto Architecture.”

The book, which highlights outdoor architecture, features the Cheel Campus Center white sculpture, “Portside,” by Black.

Black terms his sculptures "proto-architecture." They combine columns, arch-like units, canopies and benches with sculptural elements.

The sculpture was a gift from the late Helen Snell Cheel in memory of her son, Bertrand S. Cheel. The Cheel Campus Center was named after a major gift commitment by Cheel.
