Clarkson accepting registration for summer youth sports camps including hockey, soccer, strength and conditioning

POTSDAM -- Clarkson University is accepting registration for a variety of sports camps they will host throughout summer for children and teens.

Students have the opportunity to work with Golden Knights hockey strength and conditioning coach Tad Johnson. The camp is for commuters on various days and times from May 18 to June 25, or July 13 to Aug. 13.

Head hockey coach Casey Jones and staff are offering hockey day camps for mite, squirt, peewee and bantam levels. They include specialized goalie instruction, a focus on team concepts and additional lessons in skill development, strength and conditioning. The mite and squirt camps will be held July 6 to 10, and the peewee and bantam camps will be held July 13 to 17.

A youth girls hockey camp will be held Aug. 16 to 20 for girls ages 7 to 14. Matt Desrosiers, co-head women’s hockey coach, and his team will offer Division I style commuter camp. It includes on-ice skills and fundamentals, as well as off-ice skills such as conditioning, nutrition and the college search process.

Children and teens ages 7 to 17 interested in the Clarkson Baseball Camp can register for a commuter day camp with head baseball Coach James Kane from 8 a.m. to noon from July 6 to 9. This camp focuses on all aspects of the game for all skill levels. Participants will benefit from small group and individual instruction and skill assessment in a fun and engaging atmosphere.

Head softball Coach Kristen McGaughey will lead four clinic-style commuter camps to suit players of all levels. “Basic Fitness and Pitching” is June 23 to July 30. “Elite Pitching” will run Aug. 4 to 13 for ages 11 to 17. “Defensive Camp” takes place from July 28 to Aug. 13. “Advanced Strategies Camp” will be held Aug. 1 to 16 for girls entering grades six through 12.

Girls volleyball camp will be offered for extended day commuters and residents from July 30 to Aug. 2. It is for girls ages 10 to 18. They will learn from Clarkson's championship volleyball team and women's volleyball Coach Johannes Dulfer. It will cover skills training, conditioning, one-on-one evaluations and more.

Soccer players can sign up for the men's soccer ID Camp with SUNY Potsdam July 25 to 26. Residential only, the camp provides players with technical and tactical training sessions.
