POTSDAM -- The Clarkson University "Rocket Scientists" and the Potsdam Central School "Edu-Skaters" raised $1,550 for the Potsdam Educational Opportunities Fund (PEOF) at a charity hockey game this month.

More than 165 fans gathered in Clarkson's Cheel Arena to watch a team of Clarkson faculty and staff face off against a team of Potsdam Central School teachers, staff and coaches. Potsdam Central School also was supported by a cheerleading squad led by former principal Larry Jenne, who announced the game.

Potsdam Central School came back from a 5-3 deficit to tie up the game 5-5 at the end of the third period. The game went into a shootout with the only goal being scored by Potsdam Central School's Christie Sharlow.

Proceeds of the game will benefit PEOF, a grass roots organization that was initiated in 2012 to provide financial support for K-12 educational activities in the Potsdam Central School District. PEOF is operated through a volunteer advisory committee of supporters and community representatives.

To make a donation, designate your gift to the Potsdam Educational Opportunities Fund annual fund or endowment, and send a check payable to the Northern New York Community Foundation at 120 Washington St., Suite 400, Watertown, NY 13601.

For more information about PEOF, contact Advisory Committee Chair, Devon Shipp at dshipp@clarkson.edu.
