The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement and a hazardous weather outlook for the St. Lawrence Valley for the possibility of heavy rain and the potential for flooding.

The potential for heavy rainfall across the North Country exists as the region remains under a warm and humid regime.

Showers and thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon hours and move across the area through the early evening. Thunderstorms that do develop will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall.

People can expect more potential problems should any heavy rainfall occur, according to the NWS.

They warn that if rainfall persists today and tonight, people should be aware that flooding could occur in a short period of time.

The high temperature today will be in the mid-80s, dropping to a low in the mid-60s.

The chance of rain today is put at 50 percent, 40 percent tonight, and 40 percent tomorrow, with the chance of more rain through the weekend and into next week.
