CANTON – County legislators have honored Clarkson University’s women’s hockey team on winning the 2014 NCAA Division 1 National Championship.
St. Lawrence County Legislators passed a resolution at a Monday service committee meeting congratulating the players, coaches and the university on a 31-5-5 season.
“Clarkson University has excelled in superior instruction and engaging quality research, as well as highly competitive athletics,” the resolution says. “The coaching staff of the hockey team has shown the utmost in professionalism and instructional performance.”
Legislators also congratulated on team on other achievements associated with the championship season.
“The Clarkson University Golden Knight Women's Team Members have also led the nation in the following categories: total points, power play goals, most points by a defensive player, most goals by a defensive player, most assists by a defensive player, lowest goals against average, most shutouts, and best penalty kills,” the resolution says.
According to a Clarkson University release, this win was the first ever NCAA Division 1 championship victory in the school’s history.
