Clarkson honors 19 students from St. Lawrence County at recognition day ceremony

POTSDAM – Clarkson University honored 19 students from St. Lawrence County at the University Recognition Day ceremony during the spring semester:

Michael Gangone of Potsdam, a graduate student majoring in civil & environmental engineering: Outstanding Teaching Award For Graduate Students In Civil & Environmental Engineering: This award is presented to a full-time graduate student who has demonstrated outstanding ability as a teaching assistant in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. Outstanding Teaching Award For Graduate Students: This award is presented to an outstanding teacher who is a full-time graduate student having teaching responsibilities at Clarkson. The recipient will receive a certificate plus an honorarium.

Donald Stroka of Potsdam, a junior majoring in information systems & business processes: Kyle G. Reichley '85 Memorial Alumni Scholarship For Excellence In Management Information Systems (MIS).

Kyle G. Reichley '85 Memorial Alumni Scholarship for Excellence in Information Systems was established at Clarkson in 1991 through the generous contributions of MIS program alumni who knew Kyle as a student, and was endowed by his parents, Irvin and Jeanne Reichley. The scholarship, presented annually, provides recognition and financial assistance to an Information Systems and Business Processes student who demonstrates high scholastic achievement, professionalism, colleagueship and teamwork, and who exhibits potential for sustained career achievement in information technology. Phalanx Commendable Service Award: A limited number of Commendable Service Awards are presented annually to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, faculty, staff and administration members who have demonstrated quality in service to their area/organization. The award candidate should be a well-rounded individual who excels in all aspects of college life and is especially dedicated to serving his or her organization

Robert Verbridge of Potsdam a senior majoring in engineering & management: The Richard Brady Legro '82 Memorial Endowed Award: This award is presented annually to a junior or senior engineering & management student who has demonstrated commitment to the engineering & management program and to fellow students through academic performance and service. Phalanx Commendable Service Award. A limited number of Commendable Service Awards are presented annually to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, faculty, staff and administration members who have demonstrated quality in service to their area/organization. The award candidate should be a well-rounded individual who excels in all aspects of college life and is especially dedicated to serving his or her organization.

Alissa Jatsenti of Potsdam, a senior majoring in financial information & analysis: The James L. Dohr Accounting Scholarship and Award: The James L. Dohr Accounting Scholarship and Award were created in 1983 by Mrs. James Dohr to recognize and reward Financial Information & Analysis students with an interest in accounting and/or an accounting career. The recipients, through academic achievement, demonstrate leadership potential and the ability to make significant contributions in either the field of public accounting or managerial accounting. The scholarship and award were named in honor of James L. Dohr, former chair of the Accounting and Business Law Department at Columbia University. The scholarship is awarded to a senior who intends to matriculate in the MBA Program at Clarkson University. The recipient will be known as the James L. Dohr Scholar. The award is presented to a junior Financial Information and Analysis major and will receive a monetary award. The Ralph Janaro Memorial Scholarship: Awarded annually and will support a full-time student enrolled in the MBA program. This scholarship is dedicated in loving memory of Ralph by his children, Justin E. Janaro '96, Andrea Janaro and Christopher E. Janaro.

Matthew Flynn of Canton, a sophomore majoring in political science: Ilse J. Shaw Award: Established in 1991 by Professor Emeritus Robert Shaw in honor of his wife, the Ilse J. Shaw Award is presented annually to a sophomore majoring in Humanities and Social Sciences for outstanding academic achievement. The recipient receives a monetary award. Phalanx Commendable Service Award. A limited number of Commendable Service Awards are presented annually to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, faculty, staff and administration members who have demonstrated quality in service to their area/organization. The award candidate should be a well-rounded individual who excels in all aspects of college life and is especially dedicated to serving his or her organization.

Corey Snider of Massena, a freshman majoring in engineering & management: The Emerging Leaders Program Award: These awards are presented to students who have completed the Clarkson University Emerging Leadership Program. In order to participate, students identified as having leadership potential were nominated by Clarkson faculty and staff and selected from a competitive candidate pool. Award recipients successfully completed interactive sessions that covered topics such as: leadership theories, parliamentary procedure, program planning, public speaking, values and ethics, communication, motivation, goal setting and strategic planning.

Cassandra Grace of Potsdam, a freshman majoring in business studies: Ilse J. Shaw School Of Busi Ness Freshman Award: To be given each year to a School of Business freshman who has demonstrated outstanding scholastic ability and leadership. Recipient will receive a monetary award.

Claire Sweeney of Canton, a junior majoring in biology: Biology Department Sophomore Award: Given to the sophomore biology major who has attained the highest overall GPA in his/her first three semesters at Clarkson. The recipient will receive a monetary award and have his/her name engraved upon a plaque that is on display in the Department of Biology.

Madeline Twiss of Potsdam, a senior majoring in biology: Biology Department Outstanding Research Award: Given to the biology major who has demonstrated outstanding involvement in undergraduate research. The recipient will receive a monetary award and have his/her name engraved upon a plaque that is on display in the Department of Biology.

Kelly McCarthy of Potsdam, a senior majoring in innovation & entrepreneurship: Phalanx Commendable Service Award: A limited number of Commendable Service Awards are presented annually to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, faculty, staff and administration members who have demonstrated quality in service to their area/organization. The award candidate should be a well-rounded individual who excels in all aspects of college life and is especially dedicated to serving his or her organization.

Martin LaFleur of Potsdam, a senior majoring in chemistry: The Gamma Sigma Epsilon George L. Jones Jr. Award: The award is sponsored by the chemical fraternity Gamma Sigma Epsilon and consists of the name being engraved on the plaque awarded to an outstanding Sophomore Chemistry major and displayed in the Department of Chemistry & Biomolecular Science.

Cambray Merrick of Lisbon, a senior majoring in engineering & management: The Joseph Scaturro Endowed Scholarship Fund: This award is presented annually to a sophomore, junior or senior engineering & management major who has completed at least three semesters in this major. The recipient has demonstrated a willingness to help others, good citizenship, financial need and acceptable academic performance.

Amy Palmer of Gouverneur, a senior majoring in global supply chain management: Perkins Family Memorial Award: Begun in the 1960s, this award recognizes the influence and support of the Perkins family. This family owned a boarding house that was located on the current site of the Newman Center in Potsdam. The Perkins family employed many Clarkson students in exchange for their board. The family was also known for loaning money to needy students, enabling them to complete their education. The award is now presented annually to deserving work-study students.

Megan Burke of Potsdam, a sophomore majoring in social sciences: The Emerging Leaders Program Award: These awards are presented to students who have completed the Clarkson University Emerging Leadership Program. In order to participate, students identified as having leadership potential were nominated by Clarkson faculty and staff and selected from a competitive candidate pool. Molly Ball of Hammond, a sophomore majoring in environmental science & policy: Vern Clute Memorial Academic Achievement Award: An award presented to the male and female American Indian students who at the end of the first semester of their sophomore year have high academic averages.

Rachel Fulton of Colton, a sophomore majoring in history: Ilse J. Shaw Award: Established in 1991 by Professor Emeritus Robert Shaw in honor of his wife, the Ilse J. Shaw Award is presented annually to a sophomore majoring in Humanities and Social Sciences for outstanding academic achievement. The recipient receives a monetary award.

Brad Mason of Colton, a sophomore majoring in business studies: Ilse J. Shaw School Of Business Sophomore Award: To be given each year to a School of Business sophomore who has demonstrated outstanding scholastic ability and leadership. Recipient will receive a monetary award.
