CANTON -- The building of the hydroelectric dam facilities along the Raquette River in the 1950s and later changed the landscape, and greatly impacted communities and individuals.

TAUNY is interviewing people who took part in planning, building, and operating these facilities, as well as people affected by the construction of the dams, for an oral history project conducted in partnership with the Village of Potsdam, made possible by funding from the New York Department of State.

The project is one component of a regional effort to share stories about life, past and present, in Raquette River communities.

Anyone willing to share memories, photographs, news clippings, maps or any other memorabilia related to the building of the dams is asked to contact Camilla Ammirati at TAUNY at 386-4289 or camilla@tauny.org. Interviews and copies of supporting materials will be archived and shared with the public for educational purposes.
