Canton’s Partridge Run 2014 Club Championships go to Gotch, Badlam, Bishop, Mcewen

CANTON -- Billy Gotch, Venessa Badlam, Gil Bishop, and Russ Mcewen claimed this year’s Partridge Run Club Championship in the men’s, women’s, senior’s, and super-senior’s flights respectively, according to Justin Barkley, who reported the results.

With this year’s tournament scheduled later in the season than usual, the weather was a factor on both days for players battling early tee-time temperatures in the 40s and a certain type of rainfall on the first day that sends most golfers happily back to bed in the morning.

After the events were wrapped up, Gotch said, “I was just trying to keep it out of trouble, all day…and I did,” as told to Justin Barkley.

Gotch said that it was a good feeling being able to come in to the last hole confident that he could finish well and knowing he was in a good position to win. He is a three-time club champion at Partridge Run, a five-time SLU Golf Course Master’s champion, and a member of this year’s winning SLU Golf Course six-man team at the Northern New York Six Man Championship tournament.

Badlam is no stranger to the winning circle either, as this is her second straight women’s Partridge Run Club Championship victory. And five-time Partridge Run club champion Gil Bishop continues to tee it up in northern New York winning this year’s Senior Club Championship, his second consecutive senior victory.

Mcewen also held fast over both days to claim the super-senior victory on a tough course in tough conditions.

Special thanks go to Kevin and Chick McGinn in the pro shop, Mulligan’s restaurant owner and philosopher Dennis Walsh, and Partridge Run greens keeper and course superintendent Skip Wason for getting the course in such great shape for the event.
