Canton Central names graduating academic top 10

CANTON – Canton Central School recently named their academic top ten students for the class of 2015. The following students were named to the list.

Grace Caldwell has been involved in numerous activities such as musicals, figure skating, and varsity volleyball. While in France her sophomore year, she skated on a Senior Elite level synchronized skating team that placed second at the national championships and represented France in international competitions. She has also engaged in academic activities such as the Aeronautics Initiation Certificate, Clarkson's Project Challenge, four semesters of classes at St. Lawrence, and a summer physics class at Brown University. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and the International Thespian Society. This fall, Grace will attend Dartmouth College, hoping to study physics and political science. Caldwell is the daughter Roy and Ellen Caldwell, Crescent Street, Canton.

During the past four years Kathryn Fanning has participated in JV and Varsity soccer and track and field. Kathryn was awarded First Team All-Northern in soccer, and received Academic All-Northern in soccer and track. Kathryn was one of the co-editors of the yearbook, is a member of the National Honor Society, has taken many AP courses and two courses at St. Lawrence University. Apart from school activities, she enjoys soccer, running, jeeping, flying, skiing, and drawing. She has played on the FC Freeze soccer team for several years and plays the piano privately. Currently she is working towards her pilot's license and plans to continue flying. Kathryn will be attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida this fall on a Navy ROTC scholarship and will pursue a degree in Aerospace Engineering. Fanning is the daughter of Andrew and Jennifer Fanning, Miner Street Road, Canton.

Cody Moore received First Team All Northern in hockey and lacrosse as well as Academic All Northern for three years and Section X MVP in lacrosse. Cody has served as Captain for both the hockey and lacrosse teams. He is a member of the National Honor Society and been on the High Honor Roll for four years. He has also tutored middle school students, and has been actively involved with church activities and volunteering at sports’ dinners. Other than sports and community activities, Cody enjoys hunting and fishing. His plans for the next year are to go to Norwich University for Computer and Electrical Engineering, and he plans on playing lacrosse at Norwich. Moore is the son of Greg and Jennifer Moore, Tracy Road, Lisbon.

Throughout four years of high school Cora J. Prudhomme (Jana) has played soccer, participated on and off stage in theater productions and is now a part of the Thespian troupe of Canton High School. Jana is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and is co-president of her senior class. Outside school, she works with the St. Lawrence Health Initiative group TeensHELP as a peer educator for sexual health, healthy relationships and STI and pregnancy prevention. She also actively participates in the Youth Group of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton and has performed with the Community Performance Series at SUNY Potsdam for the past three summers. Jana is interested in visual arts and biology, and has recently become intrigued by philosophy, politics and government. This fall she will be attending Hamilton College in Clinton. She plans to pursue her academic interests there to set up a strong foundation for her future, and to continue to participate in a broad variety of campus clubs and community activities. Prudhomme is the daughter of Relani Prudhomme, Buck Street, Canton.

Laura Petry is currently participating in the Allied Health Program. Throughout her high school career Laura has been active in theatre productions and Thespians through lighting, sound, set construction and stage crew. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. Laura has a passion for service and has been very active in the community, usually in relation to some form of mission activity. Several years ago she planned, organized and managed a mission dinner at her church, raising funds for well construction in Ugandan orphanages. Last year she organized and led the Morley Wesleyan Church's Operation Christmas Child, gathering shoeboxes filled with school and health supplies to be shipped around the globe. This past March she was one of four youth leaders who organized and lead a youth retreat weekend for teens and young adults to Geneva, NY. Her interests are diverse: She very much enjoys food, art, architecture, Disney movies, photography and travel. Laura intends to combine her love of travel and her desire to help others by participating in future humanitarian aid in third-world countries. Laura has been accepted for direct entry into the Doctor of Pharmacy program at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where she has also been awarded the New Visions Scholarship and the Albany College of Pharmacy Dean's Scholarship. Petry is the daughter of Julie and Dale Petry, Stiles Road, Canton.

Throughout high school, Maria Ricalton has participated in cross-country, indoor track, and outdoor track. She was a member of the 4x800 meter relay team that placed first in Division II at the New York State Championships. She was also a part of the team that placed first in the 4x1mile relay at New Balance Nationals. As a member of the National Honor Society, Maria has helped out with community cleanup day and other volunteer activities. In the fall, Maria will be studying Physical Therapy at Quinnipiac University, where she will be competing on the cross-country and track teams. Ricalton is the daughter of Alan and Sara Ricalton, Goodrich Street, Canton.

Morgan A. Rosser has been on the high honor roll throughout all of her high school career. Along with her high academic achievements, Morgan is actively involved in athletics, music, theater, community service and many other student activities. She has played soccer and competed in both indoor and outdoor track and field all four years of high school. She has received numerous awards through Section X and participated in three New York State Track and Field championships. Morgan has also been actively involved in the music and theater department. She has acted in the spring musicals and has sung in Canton's vocal jazz, select choir, senior choir, as well as NYSSMA, St. Lawrence County vocal jazz ensemble and area all state choir. Morgan is a member of the National Honor Society (current president), Student Council, Thespians, and co-president of the Class of 2015. Morgan will be attending St. Lawrence University in the fall majoring in Neuroscience and Psychology. She will compete on the Saints track and field team. Rosser is the daughter of Keith and Laurey Rosser, Judson Street Road, Canton.

Kegan Sovay has taken many advanced courses, including AP and honors, as well as courses at St. Lawrence University. He will be graduating with an advanced regents diploma. During the past four years he has participated in JV and Varsity soccer, indoor track, and outdoor track and field, where he received several Academic All-Northern awards, a Second Team All-Northern award, and the Roger Dusharm Award. Kegan is also one of the head editors of the Yearbook, and a member of the National Honor Society. He has played on the F.C. Freeze travel soccer team and the Northern New York Youth Soccer League Academy. He works as a lifeguard at Canton Central School, St. Lawrence University, and Taylor Park beach. Kegan will be attending the Rochester Institute of Technology this fall to pursue a degree in Computer Security. Sovay is the son of Jon and Kathy Sovay, 352 Miner Street Road, Canton.

Audrey Thompson has played JV and Varsity volleyball, Varsity softball, and has participated in indoor and outdoor track through her high school years. Academically, Audrey has taken AP classes as well as classes at St. Lawrence University her senior year. She received the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, the Elks' Lodge Academic Top Five Award, and has been on the Academic All Northern and the High Honor Roll throughout high school. Audrey has also been part of the National Honor Society chapter and the Young Women's group at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Audrey plans to attend Rochester Institute of Technology this fall and major in Psychology. Thompson is the daughter of Roger and Tara Stevenson, Old State Road, DeKalb Junction.

Jennifer Wilcox is involved in many activities at the high school from sports to National Honor Society Vice President. She is a member of the Varsity girls' soccer team and the Varsity girls' softball team. She performs in musicals and is a member of the Thespian troupe. Jennifer also helps to edit and design the school's yearbook and tutors a struggling student. Outside of school, she participates in many charity walks including one for Alzheimer's and one for autism this summer. Jennifer plans on attending SUNY Oswego in the fall to study Childhood Education.Wilcox is the daughter of Diane and Ronald Wilcox Jr., 1214 CR 14, Rensselaer Falls.
