CANTON – An electric car charging station is already located in Canton and New York State, which is promoting the use of electric vehicles, is celebrating National Drive Electric Week Sept. 15 through 21 as part of its Charge NY initiative.
The Canton charging station is located at St. Lawrence University.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Charge NY program has helped increase the number of electric vehicles in the state from 1,000 in early 2012 to more than 10,000 plug-in vehicles on the road today.
Charge NY aims to install up to 3,000 public and workplace EV charging stations by 2018.
The New York Power Authority (NYPA) and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) are helping the state lead the charge on EV charging station infrastructure and will also be joining seven other states as part of the Multi-State Zero-Emission Vehicle Action Plan, which calls for 3.3 million zero-emission cars on U.S. roads by 2025.
