Canton Zonta's contribution provides heifer for East African family

CANTON -- The Canton Area Zonta Club (CAZC) learned recently that the group’s donation to Heifer International this past spring has provided a heifer to a family somewhere in East Africa.

Club members each have individual piggy or cow banks that they fill each year by the November meeting. Once the funds are collected and counted, the group decides how it will support an international organization that works to improve the lives of women around the world. Heifer International is often the Club’s choice.

In 2016, CAZC was able to send $500 to Heifer International (HI,) which was enough to buy a cow for one family.

“They're one of the 136,000 farm families that hope to double their income by increasing their milk production to a minimum of 1.5 gallons per day,” reads the letter received by Club President Julie Miller.

HI is “also working to bring the families' milk to market by connecting consumers to dairy farmers. None of this could have happened without your support, Canton Area” Zonta Club, writes the HI representative.
