CANTON – The town and village boards are looking into having an updated asbestos study done on the municipal building.
Trustees and councilmen discussed the issue at a joint session of the two boards Monday, June 19.
A previous study by the Canton-based Tisdel Association more than 10 years ago did lead to various remediations, said town supervisor David Button. These remediation efforts included regular floor waxing and carpeting to encapsulate the areas containing asbestos, predominately the floors.
Heavy traffic on the floors of certain municipal building offices, notably the historian’s office, coupled with more infrequent floor waxing in recent years, is leading to noticeable wear on previously identified asbestos areas, said Button.
The village and town boards plan to review the previous study and then contact Tisdel to obtain a quote on having an updated study done.
