CANTON -- The Canton Village Police Department is advising businesses to be wary of $50 bills after a counterfeit was turned into to the department Monday afternoon..
Officers said the department received a complaint from a local merchant who took the phony bill.
Officers said the bill had a serial number AD 05537119B. The bill is a Federal Reserve Note and is the older 1996 series bill.
Any businesses that receive similar bills should contact the village police at 386-8890.
Canton police have also reported the matter to the United States Secret Service.
