CANTON -- The village board here agreed at their meeting Monday, July 17, to allow a Watertown engineering firm to put together a plan to rehabilitate or replace the fountain in village park.
The village has received two proposals to do an engineering study for the work, one from a local firm and one from Bernier, Carr & Associates PC of Watertown.
The board agreed to hire Bernier & Carr to submit plans and specifications for the construction of a new fountain. The engineering study will cost about $3,500.
The estimated total cost of a new fountain is about $90,000, the board estimated at their meeting.
Mayor Michael Dalton said on Friday that the village is in the design stage at this point, and that no date has yet been proposed for the start of the project.
The village has received a grant for $10,000 from the St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency through the county Industrial Development Agency to help pay for the work, Dalton said.
